This is the Manual of Style of The Elusive Samurai Wiki, which explains how its articles should be written.
Styles[]
- Language
This is an English wiki, which means most of the articles' content should be in English. Official Japanese names/transliterations should only be either parenthesized or in appropriate infobox fields.
- Given that most users are not native English speaker, try using simple English as much as possible and avoid using obscenities and slang terms.
- Names of characters whose full name is known should be written with the family name (last name) preceding given name (first name), e.g. Hojo Tokiyuki. This also applies for article names.
- Writing style
Use an in-universe writing style for all fictional subjects, or, in other words, write about them as though they are real.
- For example, an introduction to Tokiyuki may be "the leader of The Elusive Samurai group and son of Hojo Takatoki" but should not be "the protagonist of Yusei Matsui's The Elusive Samurai manga series".
- Chapters/volumes/episodes are not fictional, so this rule doesn't apply to them. However, they should not be introduced as "the nth chapter/volume/episode of The Elusive Samurai series" but rather "Chapter/Volume/Episode n is titled...".
- Synopsis/summary
A chapter's synopsis/summary should be written as if it was an impartial report of a real event. Refrain from using such phrases as "the chapter begins with" or "in the next scene".
- This means that the present tense should be used in most cases; when referring to objects or characters that are known to have been destroyed or deceased, use the past tense. This is a general fiction-writing rule.
- Nonetheless, since the series is history-based, it is acceptable to use past tense when narrating the (author's) narrations about historical events and/or things of the real world.
- Suspense should not be added. If an unknown character made an appearance in a chapter and their identities were only revealed in a later chapter, refer to them by that identity, and edit to change all previous references, as soon as it is known. In cases where this is not possible, using "an unknown character" is acceptable.
- However, a synopsis/summary should only contain information that is known at the time of publishment. Links to other articles are not affected by this rule.
- That being said, spoilers are implied. A dedicated Project page should be used rather than placing warnings in articles.
- Others
- Quotes, if any, should be taken from officially published sources (e.g. Viz).
- Titles of works should be italicized, e.g. The Elusive Samurai.
- Dates should be written in either MDY format (e.g. December 3, 2024) or, if abbreviated, Y-M-D format (e.g. 2024-12-03).
- Contractions (e.g. "didn't", "should've") should be avoided.
- When in doubts, you may generally follow English Wikipedia's guidelines.
Naming conventions[]
- Files
- Chapter and volume covers should follow the following patterns:
- Chapter covers:
Chapter XXX.ext
(e.g. File:Chapter 001.png) - Chapter color pages:
Chapter XXX CP.ext
(e.g. File:Chapter 001 CP.png) - Volume covers:
Volume XX.ext
(e.g. File:Volume 01.png) - English volume covers:
Volume XX EN.ext
(e.g. File:Volume 01 EN.png) - Volume back-covers:
Volume XX Back.ext
(e.g. File:Volume 01 Back.jpg)
- Chapter covers:
- The name of a character's image should be the same as that character's full name (e.g. File:Ashikaga Takauji.jpg)
Other rules[]
- Chapters
- Characters should be listed in order of appearance, with notes beside their names if deem necessary (e.g. debut, mentioned, flashback, pictured, etc.)
