Children in Winter (
Tokiyuki reigns in the new year for the first time in Suwa. As the chaos from the downfall lulls throughout the country, skirmishes still break out here and there, and another crisis knocks on Suwa’s doors.[1]
Synopsis[]
Tokiyuki celebrates his first New Year in Suwa. Although the unrest across the country has temporarily subsided, skirmishes continue and a new crisis is looming in Suwa.
Yorishige and his men sense Ogasawara's suspicious movements near the northern border of the Suwa domain. With their skilled scouts away, Tokiyuki proposes sending out the "Elusive Warriors" to scout the area. The retainers are delighted by the encouraging proposal, but for some reason Yorishige is vehemently opposed...
With the expectations and worries of the adults on their backs, the Elusive Warriors rush to Suwa![2]

Anime and Manga Differences[]
- The anime adds a scene of Ayako, Kojiro, Genba and Shizuku taking Tokiyuki to the frozen lake, unlike the manga where the chapter begins with them being there.
- The anime adds a scene of Tokiyuki falling and being picked up by Kojiro and Ayako. In the manga Tokiyuki also falls but Ayako and Kojiro don't go to check on him and at the same time Genba is playing with a sled.
- While in the manga, they are only seen playing on the ice and Shizuku fishing, in the anime they are also seen playing ice hockey.
- In the manga, Shokan is seen in silhouette and his name is not revealed until the next chapter, however in the anime Shokan is formally introduced.
- A scene is added where while Shokan speaks several ants are seen and at the end they join his clothes.
- When Sadamune remembers what happened at his residence he remembers Genba while in the manga he also remembers Tokiyuki.
- When Tokiyuki tells Yorishige that in this time he has traveled all of Suwa, a memory of him riding a horse, in the manga, is seen only the silhouettes of him, Kojiro and Ayako riding horses are seen.
- In the manga, when the elusive warriors prepare to leave the sanctuary only their silhouettes are seen; in the anime a clearer scene of the five is shown.
- In the manga, when Yorishige tries to help the elusive warriors carry everything they need for their journey, Tokiyuki says that Yorishige is scary, in the anime, it's a narrator who says it.
- The anime adds a scene of Shizuku yelling at Yorishige for what he's doing.
- Scenes of the elusive warriors riding horses as they arrive at Nakayama is added.
- In the anime, the warriors are observing the village from above while in the manga they are at the entrance of the village.

- In the manga, before creating a strategy to save the village, Tokiyuki says that he wants Fubuki to teach him how to fight in order to surprise Ayako and Kojiro, in the anime this scene happens after they arrive at the village and have already talked to Fubuki regarding the strategic value of the village.
- In the manga, the Shokan group is seen raiding a place which is where Shokan cuts off the head of a survivor, the anime changes this event's location as it happens after Tokiyuki asks Fubuki to help him with the village and Shokan cuts off the head of one of the people who escaped from Shokan's mountain of bodies.
- A scene of the characters walking through the village is added.
- In the anime, when Fubuki mentions that the man leading the invasion is familiar with that strategy, it can see the silhouettes of Furan, Byakkotsu and Shiro, in the manga only the silhouette of Shokan is seen.
- In the anime, when Tokiyuki talks about Fubuki, Fubuki is seen playing with the children, in the manga, flashbacks of Fubuki saving the village occur while this happens.
- In the anime, the children are found playing with Fubuki inside a house while in the manga the children are scared by the elusive warriors that stay outside.
- Tokiyuki's flashbacks remembering the fall of the Kamakura shogunate are removed from the anime.
- In the anime, Tokiyuki approaches Fubuki to ask her to let him help protect the village, in the manga, before this happens Shizuku calls a strategy meeting to plan a strategy.
- In the final scene, the head on the tip of Shokan's sword is not shown unlike the manga where it is shown.
