The imperial court assigns a new provincial official for Shinano: Shinanonokami Kiyohara. Kiyohara did not hesitate to wield his power over people. He was considered a corrupt provincial official who made the people living in his territory suffer.[1]
Synopsis[]
Shinanono Kami Kiyohara is the new governor of Shinano Province appointed by the Imperial Court. He's a corrupt governor who wields power and oppresses his subjects.
Unable to bear the oppression any longer, Hoshina Yasaburo, a member of the Suwa Sect, raises an army to defeat the governor.
However, Suwa is unable to send reinforcements in order to avoid conflict with the Imperial Court. At Yorishige's request, Tokiyuki and the Elusive Warriors head to Kawanakajima in northern Shinano to persuade them to stop the Hoshina Party rebellion.
Can Tokiyuki show the samurai who are determined to "die for their pride" that he is prepared to "live on the run"?[2]

Anime and Manga Differences[]
- In the scene where Shizuku, Tokiyuki, Fubuki and Kojiro watch the farmers harvest wheat they are under a tree while in the manga they are walking.
- The anime omits the explanation of what a Kokushi is and why Sadamune works for him.
- Unlike the manga, the anime doesn't explicitly show Yonemaru cutting the farmer, it just adds a scene of one of Kiyohara's warriors receiving the farmer's blood. It also adds a scene of said farmer falling to the ground and showing the cut caused by Yonemaru.
- The anime removes a scene of the farmers angry at Kiyohara's rule as they hold people hurt by Yonemaru.
- The anime adds a scene of Hoshina gathered with other people determined to attack the Kokushi.
- In the anime, the meeting between Tokiyuki and Yorishige is held while they are sitting, while in the manga they are both standing.
- The anime adds a scene of Hoshina and his army riding.
- The anime shows a flashback to episode 7 when Kojiro mentions to Yorishige that he did not want to send Tokiyuki on the previous mission.
- In the manga, when Genba and Tokiyuki argue about him not knowing how to fight, Fubuki interrupts the discussion by telling Tokiyuki not to draw his sword. In the anime, Fubuki never gets involved in the discussion.
- The anime removes some of Hoshina's speech to his soldiers, such as when he mentions that the Kokushi eliminates anyone who does not pay taxes and is worse than Sadamune.
- When Kojiro pushes Tokiyuki to go stop Hoshina's army, Genba's expression changes from the manga where he is seen more worried about the situation.
- The anime expands on Sanjuro's explanation of his ideal death.
- In the anime, Genba uses bundles of hay to start a fire while in the manga, Genba piles up hay to light it.
- The anime adds a scene of Genba waiting for the Kokushi soldiers to arrive at the fire site, as well as adding a scene in which Genba waits for them in the tree while explaining the situation to them. In the manga, Genba flees when he sees the soldiers arrive.
- The anime omits the explanation about Fubuki's plan to use the river.
- The anime shows a decapitation scene by Kojiro while in the anime, Kojiro only cuts the soldier.
- In the anime, after Tokiyuki hears Hoshina glorify his and Kojiro's deaths, he has a flashback about the deaths of his father and those close to him, while in the manga Tokiyuki begins to see the bloody soldiers as well as have a faint memory of what he experienced.
- While in the manga, Fubuki is the first to notice Hoshina and Tokiyuki's fight, in the anime, Kojiro, Genba, and Fubuki notice at the same time.
- The anime shows a scene of Kojiro, Fubuki and Genba ready to defend Tokiyuki while in the manga only Genba is seen preparing.
- In the anime, when Tokiyuki recalls how the Hojo clan fell to Ashikaga's forces, Takatoki, Jiro, Saburo, and Takauji can be seen standing in front of the bodies, the manga does not show them directly.
- In the manga, when Hoshina asks how old Tokiyuki is, Fubuki can be seen putting him down so Tokiyuki can rest, however in the anime, Genba, Fubuki, and Kojiro hold him at all times.
- In the manga when Ichikawa mentions that Suwa has a weird gang of kids it is seen that his face has some drawings on it made by Kiyohara, while in the anime, Kiyohara does not finish drawing Kiyohara's face when Ichikawa mentions him about the elusive warriors.
- In the manga when Ichikawa mentions the Elusive Warriors it shows how Ichikawa sees them, seeing that he sees them with a piece of poop on top of their heads (except for Genba who sees it as a complete piece of poop), the anime maintains this however the way they are shown makes reference to a drawing made by a child.
Trivia[]
- Like the manga, the names of none of Hoshina's warriors are revealed.
