The year is 1333, Kamakura. Tokiyuki Hojo, the rightful heir to the regent who rules the Kamakura shogunate, is a kind boy with a heart of gold who dislikes conflict – even though he’s the son of a warrior.[1]
Synopsis[]
The year is 1333 in Kamakura.
The heir to the Kamakura shogunate regent, Hojo Tokiyuki, was a gentle-hearted boy who did not like conflict despite being the son of a samurai. In an era where battle and death were considered the honor of a samurai, Tokiyuki disliked martial arts training, was whispered to be a coward, and was only good at running away and hiding. One day, as Tokiyuki fled from his training as usual, he encountered the mysterious priest Suwa Yorishige. Yorishige, who possessed the ability to foresee the future, told Tokiyuki that he would become a hero who shakes the heavens. Thus began the game of tag for the nation, driven by the turbulent fate of this boy.[2]

Anime and Manga Differences[]
- The anime opens with a countdown from the year 2024 to 1333 and a prologue telling the story of Ashikaga Takauji, the manga begins with a foreshadowing focused on Hojo Tokiyuki.
- While in the manga, the story begins with the celebration of Takauji's arrival in Kamakura, the anime begins with Jiro and Kano chasing Tokiyuki into training.
- A scene of Kunitoki training archery is added.
- The anime adds a scene of Kunitoki and Tokiyuki talking on the roof about how Kunitoki cannot be the clan's successor. In the manga, this conversation occurs when both are playing with the ball.
- The scene of the ball remaining on the roof of a house is original to the anime, in the manga Kunitoki throws the ball upwards and then ends with the scene of his decapitated head.
- In the manga, Ayako and Kojiro arrive in Kamakura as reinforcements for Yorishige, however in the anime they are not in Kamakura but are only mentioned by Yorishige.
- When Yorishige mentions that Tokiyuki must find allies, Kazama Genba, a future ally of Tokiyuki, can be seen.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the manga, the anime does not show Kono Moroyasu during the attack on Kamakura.
